THE HPV VACCINE PROTECTS
Certain types of HPV result in cell changes on the cervix, with the degree of severity ranging from mild cell changes to cancer. It is these cell changes that are excaminated with the cervical smear test. It is a good idea to have a cervical smear test every 2–3 years after the first time you have sexual intercourse.
It is recommended to discuss with your own doctor the age at which you should have the HPV vaccine. The vaccine does not reduce the need to have the smear test. It is also a good idea for men to have the HPV vaccine. We use the Gardasil vaccines at Eira.
