Alcohol detoxification patients are always treated with respect for the patient’s privacy at Eira Hospital. Our services include detoxification treatment in the in-patient unit, consultations with doctors specialising in addiction, psychiatrist who specialise in addiction and therapists. They also include a rehabilitation course and guided self-help group.

Detoxification treatment without a doctor’s referral

We have many year’s experience of treating alcohol detoxification patients in the in-patient unit – Always with respect for the patient’s privacy.

NB! People who misuse narcotics are not treated in the unit.

Take the test and chart your alcohol dependence:

  1. Have you tried to reduce your alcohol consumption without success?
  2. Has a relative or friend been anxious or irritated by your alcohol use?
  3. Do you use alcohol to cure your hangover?
  4. Do you have feelings of guilt about your drinking?

If you answered YES to two of these questions, there are grounds to be worried about your alcohol use and potential alcohol dependence.

Consultation with an addiction doctor

You get help with your alcohol problems from Eira’s experienced doctors. The patient’s alcohol background, problems in their life and treatment options are discussed at the clinic in confidence.

The basis of successful treatment is a tailored medication and discussions with doctors and healthcare staff.

Consultation with a therapist

Does it feel difficult or even impossible to stop drinking?
Do you become anxious when you see a loved one drinking?

A confidential conversation with a therapist specializing in alcohol problems can put you at ease and give you answers to your questions.

Psychiatrist

Substance use is often associated with depression, anxiety, insomnia, or other symptoms. An underlying substance use problem may also stem from an independent illness or another issue, such as depression, an anxiety disorder, ADHD, or untreated psychological trauma.

Book an appointment with our psychiatrist specialized in substance use issues if you experience or suspect any of the following in connection with your substance use or its underlying causes:

  • Anxiety, depression, or sleep difficulties
  • Psychological trauma
  • ADHD or suspicion of ADHD
  • Other psychological symptoms

Peer support group

We offer a peer support group once a week in Eira Hospital.

Contents: The group is always led by a trained professional. The group involves engaging in an open dialogue.

Time: Wednesdays from 17:00 to 18:30.
