Liposuction and fat transplantation
A more proportional body with liposuction
Liposuction is used to reshape the body by sucking away fat tissue. In adults, fat cells are not renewed, which means that the results are permanent as long as your weight doesn’t increase markedly following the surgery. The procedure helps most if your skin is still elastic, as the skin then quickly recovers following the surgery.
Liposuction is not a slimming method, it is a way to remove local fat deposits such as a ball of fat on the stomach, excess fat on the thighs and a double chin. A maximum of 3–4 litres of fat are sucked out at one time in order to maintain the body’s fluid balance. If you have a larger removal of fat in mind, the next liposuction can be performed as soon as the area of tissue has recovered, which is normally about one week later.
Procedure with either local or general anaesthetic
Liposuction can be performed under general anaesthetic or with local anaesthetic. With WAL (water-assisted liposuction) technology, it is usually possible to take care of large areas using local anaesthetic.
After the procedure
Liposuction results in small scars. Bruises develop in the treated areas, but these disappear 2–4 weeks later and the swelling goes down within 3–6 weeks. Following the surgery, the patient used supportive textiles that promote the recovery of the skin and minimise swelling. How long the supportive textiles need to be used depends on the extent of the area treated and usually varies from 1–3 weeks.
You can return to work after a few days, or at the most one week. You can gradually start taking part in sports two weeks after the liposuction.
The end result can normally be assessed six months after the procedure.
Body shaping with fat transplantation
Using fat transplantation, it is possible to add fat to, for example, the cheek area of the face, which has lost its fullness due to ageing. It is also possible to correct scar cavities and fill out and reshape, for example, the lips. The fat doesn’t just have a filling effect on sunken and creased areas, it also adds stem cells that can contribute to rejuvenating the skin.
Correction surgery on the breasts can also be performed using fat transplantation.
